How to disable the "Add new Customer" option from the portal?

Alexandr November 11, 2024

Hello, I have a problem. A user can create a new account in JSM by themselves; they can do this on the portal using "Add new Customer." Could you please clarify how the "Add new Customer" feature works, how it can be restricted, and whether there will be any conflict with Active Directory and already created users?Screenshot_1.png

Hello @Alexandr ,

So here's summarized documentation:

  • Self-registration: If JSM's customer permissions are set to allow "Anyone can send a request," users can self-register by providing their email and basic details. This will create a new customer account within JSM.
  • Adding Customers via Portal: Agents or admins can also manually add customers through the “Add new Customer” option in the portal, allowing them to add specific individuals who need access to support without requiring self-registration.

So to resolve these problems, i would suggest to check project settings -> Customer Permissions. Here you can change permissions to restrict who can raise requests. Options include:

  • Only customers who are added to the project: Only users manually added by agents or admins can submit requests.
  • Only customers with accounts on the site: This restricts customer access to existing site users.

Or, there's another option:

Disable Public Signup: To fully control account creation, you can disable the option that lets anyone create an account or send a request, which is useful for stricter environments.

Best regards,

Ugnius

Hello @Ugnius Aušra
"I currently have the following settings, and I do not see the option 'Disable Public Signup' here. Where can I find this option? I want to ensure that no one can create users from the portal."Screenshot_2.png

Good morning @Alexandr

To disable public signup in Jira Service Management, you'll need to adjust site-wide settings rather than project-specific ones. Here’s how to find the option:

  1. Go to Site Administration:

    • From the main Jira Service Management settings, navigate to Atlassian Admin by clicking on the Settings icon (gear icon) and selecting User management.
  2. Access Product Access Settings:

    • In the User management section, go to Settings on the left side, then look for Product access.
  3. Disable Public Signup:

    • Locate the option that controls Public signup or Allow customers to create accounts. Here, you can disable the setting to prevent users from signing up on their own.

Once disabled, only admins will be able to add users, and no one will be able to create accounts from the portal.
