Initialize field values automatically

Rana Ahmed July 22, 2020

I am new to JIRA cloud service desk.
I need to configure some fields to be auto populated

  1. When the user starts filling the form. some fields should be auto initialized. e.g. if the user is a manager the priority should automatically be set to HIGH
  2. Or can we set default values e.g. when a new form is opened the value of priority field should be by default LOW

Hello @Rana Ahmed

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, you can configure default values to some fields in order to pre-populate them when creating a new issue.

About your specific points, these would be some insights:

1 - When the user starts filling the form. some fields should be auto initialized. e.g. if the user is a manager the priority should automatically be set to HIGH

Unfortunately, you can not define a default value based on the user's role or groups, however, you can create an automation rule to automatically set some fields if the user that is creating the rule is in a determined group (Administrator/manager). These would be the steps:

  1. Navigate to your project > Project settings > Automation
  2. Create the automation you need, following the template below:

2 - Or can we set default values e.g. when a new form is opened the value of priority field should be by default LOW

For the priority field, you can configure a default value for new forms by following the steps below:

  1. Select  > Issues.
  2. Under ISSUE ATTRIBUTES, select Priorities
  3. Click on Default in the priority you want to be pre-filled in your issue creation screen:

Can something like this be done via automation or another mechanism with the attributes of assets?  So for example, if we have an attribute for a laptop of Asset Assignee, and I pick John Smith, then the next attribute of Assignee Location auto-fills to the location that John Smith is assigned.
