I understand. However, is there a script that i can run to record elapsed time into a custom field.

It depends on what is for you elapsed time.
If you are talking about Jira SLA maybe you could create a script, but maybe it is easier to work with other fields
Maybe you could work too with the difference between two dates, or the times in status, it has a lot of use cases...

@Julia Denys , How can I get the Add-on? We already have JIRA project for organization, i want to include this add-on to get SLA reports. Can you please be more specific?

You can try SLA Time and Report and create a report that will show you SLA elapsed time directly in the application.
With this add-on, you are able to set SLA timer value and statuses when the countdown should be turned on/off according to your configurations.
Speaking of the times in status, you can try Time in Status for Jira Cloud by SaaSJet. With this add-on, you can track the number of times an issue has been in a specific status. You can also get the information about the time in status for every stage in your workflow and the number of times a task moved from one status to another.
In both add-ons, you can see the information immediately after opening the application. Also, you can use filters to generate reports and later export them as XLSX or CSV file.
Hope the above is useful to you. Please let me know if you have any questions.
