Hi,

 

How do i get rid of this "Recently Used Forms" on the customer portal for JSD?

You can't modify this page so it's impossible to hide this section.

Any other useful tips (or hacks and best practices) to configure the OOTB portal features would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, you can't do a lot on this page. You can extend possibilities of customer portal by using apps (for example, Extension for Jira Service Desk developed by my team) but due to technical limitations, vendors possibilities to extend the portal are very limited. 

By default, you can change a little visual aspects, such as logo, background, button/text color. You can also add announcements or embed customer portal widget on your pages.
