A proliferation of watchers

robert_egan_305 September 8, 2020

I have a Jira project with issues that are assigned to a group. It appears that the assignment process is adding every member of the group as a watcher of the issue.

Is this the default behavior, and if so, how can it be disabled?

Hello @robert_egan_305

Thank you for reaching out.

It's not possible to assign an issue to a group using only Jira application features. That being said, can you please let us know how you are doing it? Are you using a third-party app to achieve it?

By default, the assignee of an issue is configured in the notification scheme of the project to receive notifications, however, they are not added as watchers of the issue.

I suspect the behavior you are facing might be a functionality of some third-party app or customization you configured for your Jira Instance, so can you please provide us more details of the scenario you have and a screenshot of your issue screen where the assignee field is being updated?
