Access workflow directly from Agile

I've just started using Jira, and I would like to be able to transition through my workflow in the Agile scrum board. Being able to click on a task and transition to "Done" would save me a lot of mouse clicks.

I see that you can drop down the list at the top of the issue pane, go to more actions and select the action form the new dialog, but it would be REALLY cool if the basic workflow stuff from the issue screen was more accessible. Ideally the issue pane would look just like the normal JIRA issue pane.

Currently, the quickest solution is to click on the issue in the Agile board, then click on the issue number in the side-pane to open the issue, then click on done, then go back to the Agile board.

Is there a way to bring the "Done" and other workflow buttons closer to the main Agile board?

Hi David,

You could also transition the issues directly via the 'Work' mode by dragging the issues into their respective columns (which corresponds to different statuses). You can edit the columns to be mapped to different statuses.

Of course, if you are using a Scrum board, then you would have to start a sprint to be able to do this.

Yes, this would be a way to do it, but I don't start my sprints. :) Here's a bit of an overview of how I'm using Jira+Agile.

I tried playing around with using formalised scrums, but in the end found the easiest and most flexible way to work was to create a few different sprints, called "This week", "Soon", "Next Version" and "Ideas". (Next version generally means in the next 6-9 months, although I do release interim versions often several times a week). This setup within Agile allows me to easily drag and drop issues around between categories, and also to sort them within categories, although I never start a scrum, and never finish a scrum, and don't create new scrums each week. I also allows me to schedule, prioritise and work with issues across multiple projects, which is great.

Each week I have a planning time, similar to a scrum. New items on the backlog can be sorted into the appropriate 'scrum'. Any items still remaining unresolved in "This week" from the previous week may stay there for the coming week, or may be reallocated to a different category. A weeks worth of new work can be dragged from "Soon" and "Next version" into "This week".

During the week, priority issues will come up and some will be added immediately into "This week", and other new issues left on the backlog for the next planning time. If I have extra time during the week, I'll pull something more out of the backlog or "Soon" and do that.

I just found 'starting' scrums to actually get in the way of my workflow, so I only ever use the "Plan" section of the scrum board. In the same vane, I rarely "Start Progress" on my issues. They are either Todo or Done.

So, with the aim of keeping it simple, it would be nice to be able to action "Done" straight from the "Planning" screen.

Here's another related question - Is it possible to configure Agile so that it doesn't warn about changing scopes? Then I can start the scrum, and easily continue to add and remove stuff without having annoying warnings every time?
