I'm able to display a custom "widget" in a Confluence page using the Insert >> Jira Issue/Filter option, however, I want to include a sort of snippet or short-form summary of the main Issue Description field.
Currently for all issues it displays everything in the Description field. For long descriptions this makes the page unusable. I wanted something more like the Jira cards you can see if, for example, you paste a Jira Issue link into a new Jira issue.
Is there a way to limit the amount of the description field much like a Jira card?
I'm not aware of a way to do this, so I used Scriptrunner to create a Short Description custom field that takes the first 150 characters of the Description field which I can then display in a KB macro.
I didn't try very hard, but I wasn't able to get any kind of wiki-level formatting, as it's just grabbing the text string. So, instead of the seeing bolded text, it shows *bolded text*.
Other than that, it works well, so if you have Scriptrunner, I could share the code with you.
