Archive attachments in Jira

Bouabana March 1, 2023

Hello,

I am looking for a solution to archive all the attachments of my jira project.

I already tried to access the home directory and copy/paste the folder /data that contains the attachments. However, the attachments had no extensions, so i couldn't read them, except for images (.png), which were too small, they didn't reflect the real dimensions of the original images (the screenshots are below).

Could you suggest other methods to archive the attachements ? Is using third party apps like Download Attachments a good solution ? Is there other apps that do the same thing ?

Thank you !

Hello @Bouabana

Can you explain the problem you are trying to solve with this?

Are you planning to remove the attachment files from the Jira server? Do you no longer need to have access to those attachments through Jira issues?

Do you need to put the archived attachments elsewhere, where you could directly select a file (outside of Jira) and have it open in the appropriate view screen for that type of file?

Hello @Trudy Claspill

Actually, we are migrating two projects from one jira server/data center instance that is hosted externally (external provider) to a jira server/Data center instance that is hosted internally.

We went for a CSV import/export method to achieve this goal. The problem is that this method doesn't allow the transfer of attachments, so our only solution to not lose the attachments (we are planning to close the external Jira) is to archive them and keep them in a hardware.

We tried to copy/paste the folder /data contained in home directory, however this method has many drawbacks (listed in my question above). Therefore, we are looking for another solution.

We tried using third party apps like "Download Attachments" but it didn't work for us.

Did you consider other migration options that would include attachments? Is it an option at this point to re-migrate using such a method?

Unfortunately, I talked to the support team, and our only option here is a CSV import/export. And now, we are looking for a way to archive the attachments... is there an app apart from "Download Attachments" that allows that ?

This one seems to support bulk download/export of attachments. Note I have NOT used this app.
