Automatically move linked issues with parent

Will May May 14, 2020

When we move tickets from one project to another project, we want to also move any linked tickets of a specific type to that project as well. When I look at jira automation rules, I see a trigger type for moving a ticket, but I do not see an action type for moving a ticket. Is there a way to do this? Alternatively, I can delete the old ticket and create a new ticket, but it would be better to preserve links, attachments and comments, etc...

Hello @Will May

Thank you for reaching out.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to move an issue using Automation in Jira. We have the following feature request to implement this possibility in the future:

Action to move an issue from one project to another (or change sub-task parent)

That being said, the workaround to properly move an issue using Jira automation would be by creating a rule that will clone the issue and delete the original one, as explained in the link below:

Move an issue with automation

Unfortunately, this workaround would not retain the issue comments and Attachments (AUT-465  and AUT-1030), so we suggest keeping an eye in the mentioned feature request to know when we implement a better move option in Jira automation.

Let us know if you have any questions.
