Can I set some users up to land inside an app by default?

Good Day

We recently added an App to our platform, QALity Plus.  We want to add some external users to our Atlassian platform to use and work with that App, but not have access outside of it.

Is it possible for a user, signing in, to lock their view so they can only see that App?  They don't need access to anything outside of it.

Thanks

Hi @Infrastructure Solutions

Jira lacks a built-in feature to automatically direct users to a specific third-party app upon login. you can explore options to streamline user access to the QALity Plus app.

Consider creating a custom dashboard with relevant links, setting it as the default for the external user group. Restrict access with a custom permission scheme, project visibility, and application access settings.

Configure custom dashboards | Atlassian Support

Create and edit a dashboard | Jira Work Management Cloud | Atlassian Support

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @Infrastructure Solutions,

Although I do not have practical experience with the app, I am afraid what you describe won't be possible, for several reasons:

  • from the app documentation, I see that it is using issues (of a specific issue type) inside your Jira projects. And so, in order for your users to work with those issues, they need access to those projects (otherwise, they won't be able to see or manipulate any of the test cases created by the app).
  • Jira users can set their preferred home page (from a limited set of options, being Your work, a dashboard or the project catalog) from their personal settings, but Admins cannot push that preference centrally.

I would recommend sharing the URL you would ideally have your users start from and suggest they bookmark that url as a starting point. It may eventually happen that this turns out not to be the most effective way for users to find their work in the end, and so you / they still have the flexibility to discover what works (better) or not.

Hope this helps!
