There are open suggestions which you can vote/follow - see JSWCLOUD-17277 for card colours, or more generally JSWCLOUD-17331 for the inclusion of board settings.
One colour does function on Next-Gen - issues turn red when a flag is added. Failing that, card colours are still available on Classic Boards :)
