Change JIRA Domain

Hey everybody,

is it possible to change the JIRA (Cloud) Domain? If so, is it possible to change it while working with that JIRA instance?

Hi @Miriam Grühn 

If you want to change the domain, you’ll need to remove the old domain and request a new one. You can’t edit a custom domain.

You can change which app the domain applies to in the details view.

To change the assigned app:

1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

2. Select Apps > App URLs.

3. Select the Custom domains tab.

4. For the domain you want to activate select More Actions (

4. ) > Show details.

5. Select Remove beside the assigned app.

6. Select Assign then choose an app from the list.

7. Select Save.

The custom domain will now point to the app instance you selected.

This is only possible on having one of the following subscriptions:

Atlassian Cloud: Jira Premium, Confluence Premium, or a Jira Service Management Standard plan

On a Jira Standard subscription, this is not possible.

Good catch! The process is correct tho. Nevertheless, @Miriam Grühn  Jira Cloud Standard does not support this feature.

Hi @Miriam Grühn - I would like to add something here.

There are 2 URLs to access a site in Atlassian Cloud. 

• one ending with atlassian.net
• a custom domain that ends with your company's domain

if you're referring to first type of URL, then this can be changed being on a standard plan. Custom domains are not available for standard plans, but premium and up. 

This is explained in this support document: Can I update the URL used to access an app? 

There are also some limitations, such as that you can only change the URL 3 times. The advantage is, that the old URLs still refer to the new URL after the change.

Note: The change of the base URL is also changing the URL for all other products in the same site, e.g. Confluence, if used.
