Changing System Dashboard to another Dashboard

We have created dashboards for multiple projects separate from the System Dashboard. How can I:

1. make a project dashboard the default dashboard for a user
2. replace the system dashboard with one of the project dashboards as projects come and go?

You can't do either of those things as you describe, I'm afraid.  The system dashboard is the default dashboard for all new users.  You can customise it though, so if you make it generic and suitable as a starting point for all projects, it does become somewhat more useful.

One thing I do is add a gadget that allows me to place "getting started" links or hints for new users (e.g. "see this getting started doc in confluence" or "Ask your project lead what dashboards might be good for you")
