Hello and happy Tuesday,
For my team-managed projects I'd like to configure the following hierarchy:
Project (ie Initiative?)->Sub Project (ie Epic?)->Task->Sub Task.
Currently when creating any type issue, the children are always Sub Task, but I essentially would like to add a layer there so the Sub Tasks can also have their Sub Tasks. Is this possible with Premium without a marketplace app?
Thanks and good day!
Hi @Nirit Michaeli!
No, Sub-tasks can't have sub-tasks of their own by design.
However, with the recently added "Action items" you can at least add a check list to follow in the sub tasks.
But no, you will have to use a third party app if you wish to get real sub-subtasks.

as already mentioned, sub-tasks can't natively have sub-tasks in Jira. The only way to workaround this limitation would be issue links, which can be established between any pairs of issues (including two sub-tasks).
See also this thread for reference.
Best,
Hannes

Thanks Hannes! That's a nice option but unfortunately I need to be able to link more than 2 subtasks, so don't think it will work in this use case. Thanks a lot for thinking along :)

Hi @Nirit Michaeli, thanks for getting back to me! Just to clarify, you can link any amount of sub-tasks to each other: One single issue link always connects 2 issues to each other, but you can have as many issue links as you like.
Best, H

Oh that definitely clarifies and makes a lot more sense, thank you Hannes! :)
