Created vs Resolved Chart "Trend of unresolved" - How to calculate?

Gary Fitzgerald August 8, 2022

What is the formula used to calculate the Trend of unresolved subplot for the Created vs Resolved chart?

In another post, Nic said  "A trend is not an absolute predictor, a generaised predictor of direction.  It's extrapolated from the data over time, it's actually very rare that a trend would hit your actual count on any given day/week."

How is this calculated?

My searches haven't found anything in the community or documentation. Also genraised maybe misspelled and actually generalized.

It's mostly a simple average over time, weighted by age.  If you imagine you put simple dots on a graph, one per day, at a height proportional to the amount done that day, then draw a line that runs closest to the middle of all of them, then extend it into the future.

(Yes, I was having a bad spelling day, the word is indeed "generalised")
