I have custom fields in my jira cloud project that contain a text string which is an ID to a legacy system we have. I want to be able to type in either partial or full text of an ID into the quick search, but there's no match in either case.
The only way of doing this is using advanced search and putting in the full text or the beginning text with an "*" following for wildcard. I can't do wildcard at the start.
This is very inflexible and frustrating.
None of the search docs appear to mention this at all - perhaps I've missed something somewhere? Any advice greatly appreciated.
Paul,
Currently, this feature is not available in JIRA yet, there is a feature request JRACLOUD-35796 regarding this.
Please feel free to vote on it to increase its popularity and add yourself as the watcher in order to receive any latest updates from the developer and feedback from other users that are facing the same issue.
The only way it seems that you're going to be able to do this in JIRA as it is now is to use the advanced search. You can do this by using the syntax cf[CustomFieldID] or CustomField in the advanced search.
For example:
CustomField ~ "Your Search"
See Advanced searching - fields reference for more information.

@Paul Phillips can I ask what link you used to create your original question? Trying to track down an issue we're having with tags... thank you! :) And hope Josh's answer helped as well.
