Can you clarify what you mean by "migrate"?

Dashboards are typically comprised of gadgets that reference projects or filters to determine the data they present. You can change the configuration of the gadgets to reference different filters or projects.

If that doesn't address your question, please provide more details about your scenario.

Agree. Dashboards are not specific to CMP or TMP.

Thanks for your responses. To clarify my question, is there way for me to share the dashboard between classic and next-gen projects so that I don't have to recreate it?

So I think what you’re Asking is can you use a single dashboard and include gadgets that refer to your TMP and CMP projects. Correct? Assuming so yes that is absolutely possible.

What do you mean by "share"?

Having Company Managed (previously known as Classic) projects and Team Managed (previously known as Next Gen) projects in one Jira instance is possible only when you are using Jira Cloud.

If you are talking about the Dashboards that are created from the Dashboards menu option in the menu bar at the top of the screen...

... these Dashboards are not project-specific. As I said, they are comprised of gadgets that reference saved filters or projects to select the data to display. The gadgets have to be told explicitly where to get the data.

Are you trying to describe a scenario where you would have one dashboard filled with gadgets where somehow the project used by the gadgets is a variable that could be specified dynamically, when the dashboard is displayed?

If that is indeed what you are looking for, that functionality is not natively available in Jira Cloud.

There is a third party app for Jira Cloud that seems to indicate it offers that sort of functionality.

Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards

However, the architecture of Company Managed projects compared to Team Managed projects is quite different. For instance, custom fields and statuses added to Team Managed projects are specific to their individual projects. If you had a custom field in your Company Managed projects named "Field1" and had a custom field in 1..n Team Managed projects also named "Field1", each of the "Field1" fields in the Team Managed projects would be a unique custom field. If you had a dashboard gadget that tried to use that field and used the above app to try to make a quick filter for a shared dashboard, the output of the dashboard might not be correct as you changed from one project to another.

Jack and Trudy, my scenario is as follows: I have a company managed project which does not have advanced roadmaps. As a result, I am given to understand, I have to start using team managed project which means I have to get Jira Cloud and subscribe to premium plan. In this scenario, if I created a new teams managed project and moved all my issues (assume I don't have custom fields I worry about losing), is there a way for me to make a copy of the dashboard with all the gadgets from company managed project in the new team managed project? And assuming I didn't have problems with issues linking to the new project key, should the dashboard update accordingly? If not, how much of the dashboard am I going to lose?

You do not have to migrate to a Team Managed project to access Advanced Roadmaps in Jira Cloud. Advanced Roadmaps is available for Company Managed projects in Jira Cloud.

If you are considering a migration from Jira Server to Jira Cloud, you should review the resources available that discuss that migration, such as this one

Okay, now it is becoming more clear! Team managed or company managed, Jira cloud and subscription to Jira premium are required to use advanced roadmaps. Is my assessment correct?

Simply put:

  • Advanced Roadmaps are available on Premium plan not Standard or Free.
  • TMP and CMP project templates are available on all plans

According to this page

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1212136/advanced-roadmaps-for-jira-software-formerly-portfolio/version-history

it seems like there is some version of Advanced Roadmaps that is available for Jira Server and Data Center, but I am unclear how you actually get it.

There is a download button to the right and it says it's free. Interesting that it was released after Atlassian announced it won't sell Jira server anymore. I'm guessing it won't be supported long-term?
