I'm new to creating tasks in Jira and I accidentally created a duplicate that needs to be permanently removed. There was no option for deleting duplicates or deleting anything. Thanks!
@Lisa Wininger welcome to the Atlassian community
Jira allows you to delete issues. Jira administrators can change permissions on a project to prevent this. Are you a Jira administrator?
Thanks. But I'm not an administrator. The delete option was not visible yesterday and is grayed out today. I'm a bit baffled as to why I can create something, but I'm not permitted to remove it. Hopefully, the admin will be able to remove the duplicate task and help me keep a 'clean' board uncluttered by my newbie mistakes.
Cheers!

Hello @Lisa Wininger
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Where are you looking to find the option to Delete an issue?
If you have sufficient permissions (refer to @Brant Schroeder 's response) then you will find the option by clicking the three-dots button in the upper right corner of the issue.

Thanks for your response, but I don't think I want to delete an "issue". I want to delete a duplicate "task" (unless issue = task). "Delete" is not available. I'll have to check with the Administrator. Both tasks are marked "Cancelled" but they still appear on the board.
Please note that while I have some experience with using Jira, I'm basically untrained. If there are any links to tutorials, please let me know. A lexicon of 'Atlassian speak' would be helpful, too.
Thanks again!

Hello @Lisa Wininger
We use a variety of terms to generically refer to the "things" that are tracked in Jira; i.e. tasks, issues, items, etc. I used "issue" generically. In your case the Type of the issue/item may be "Task".
What you see as "Cancelled" in the image is a Status for the issues/items/tasks.
Every item progresses through a lifecycle; i.e. starting as a brand new item with a status of To Do, then moving to a status of In Progress when work starts, and finally to a status of Done when the work is completed. In your case your administrators have added a status of Cancelled.
Your administrators may prefer that rather than deleting an item it gets changed to a status of Cancelled. This is a common choice to avoid accidental deletion of items. In Jira, when an item is deleted it is permanently deleted and can't be recovered. Accidental deletions can cause huge problems when you can't recover the deleted item.
As for training, there is quite a lot of free, on-demand training available at https://university.atlassian.com. There is a search feature there that you can use to search for training by product, difficulty level, and other options. You may want to start with the Beginner level courses for Jira.
