Email notifications aren't being sent

Try as I might I can't get Jira On Demand to send email notifications.

1) Manual email works fine (Administration->mail->send e-mail)

2) Notification scheme is configured to send email to relevant users on relevant events (using default scheme)

3) Notification scheme is assign to current (and only) project
