Emails not sent on a Free Jira plan

I just took a free jira plan and created my first project, some epics and tasks, and I am trying to move their statuses, add comments, etc. just to see if the automatic emails will be sent but although they are configured, I am recieving none of the emails. 
Does anyone know the solution to this?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

What type of project did you create? You can get that information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

Did you customize the notifications for the project in any manner?

Have you checked your personal Notifications settings to ensure you have not disabled anything?

Does the in-application bell notification show that notifications are being delivered to your account within the app?

Thanks for the help, I actually had this option turned off and that stopped the nofications
