Enable/disable mail functionality from remote

Hi Community,

Is it possible to enable/disable (outbound) mail functionality without restarting a Jira instance?

I need this functionality to be able to turn mail functionality on or off as needed in my staging environments. I would prefer to be able to do this via REST API but haven't found anything about it.

you can go to Administration > System > Outgoing mail and disable it from there.

I am serching for a remote operation. A REST API call or something similar, because I want to make this function controllable from outside for my staging environments.

I do not think this is possible with REST, no.
