Epic Issue Type

Hi,

As you know the Epic issue type has some special specifications, can i create a custom issue type similar to Epic ? or Can I rename the Epic issue type ? what will be the impact ?

No.  Jira only supports one, hard-coded, issue type as the Epic.  All the others you create will be issue level or sub-task level.

Yes.  Test it first though, there used to be a couple of apps for Server that would choke on a renamed Epic type.  I think they've been fixed though, I've not seen a problem with it for a couple of years.

Your Epics will be called something else. 

Assuming that you decide to call them Kate (short for Bob), then you will have to go educate your users that when they see things like Epic report, Epic Link, Epic Name, Epic Colour, Epic section on board and and and, they need to remember that they all really refer to Kate.  Renaming the issue type to Kate will not change the names of the associated functions.
