Exporting out to Excel without the use of additional apps

Is there any way to export out data from a project without the use of additional apps.  I'm looking to export data into excel then into Powerbi.  Currently I don't have the button to export out to CSV file either.  Any way through automation or other ideas?

As long as you can see the issue data, you should be able to run a JQL search.  Once you have done that, there is an export button you can choose in order to export that data into several formats.  If Excel is your destination, I recommend selecting the CSV option as it will format the data in a manner that excel can import easily.

Do you not have the options to export like in this screenshot?

Hi @Charles Brooks ,

There are a few ways to export Jira data to Excel without using additional paid apps:

  • Jira’s Built-in Export Options:
In Jira Cloud, you can often export issues to CSV from the issue navigator, which you can then open in Excel. If the export button is missing, try switching to the “List View” or using advanced search (Issues > Search for issues). Permissions or UI updates may also affect visibility.

  • Jira Cloud for Excel (Official Atlassian Add-on):
Atlassian offers a free “Jira Cloud for Excel” add-on, which lets you pull Jira data directly into Excel using your Jira credentials. You can filter, refresh, and analyze issues in Excel, though some advanced fields and customizations may be limited. This is a straightforward, no-cost solution for most reporting needs.

  • Manual Copy-Paste:
For small datasets, you can copy from the issue navigator and paste into Excel. This is quick but loses formatting and doesn’t scale well.

  • Automation/REST API:
With some technical setup, you can use Excel’s Power Query to connect to Jira’s REST API and automate data pulls. This gives you more flexibility, but requires scripting knowledge.

Pros:

  • No additional cost for basic options

  • Native Jira and Atlassian tools

  • Works for standard exports

Cons:

  • Limited support for custom fields, Assets, Worklogs, or advanced data

  • Manual steps or technical setup required for automation

  • Jira Cloud for Excel is in maintenance mode and may not support all use cases

If you need more robust integration—such as bi-directional sync, scheduled exports, richer data (Assets, Changelogs, Worklogs), and greater reliability—Mobility Stream offers a paid Excel Online Integration for Jira. It’s used by large organizations and supports real-time, scheduled, and one-time exports. More details are available in our user guide.
