Extending GreenHopper to Filter by Group on Planning Board

We want to extend GreenHopper by allowing an additional filter on the Planning Board. We want to add a filter by "Group". We want this to function similary to how GreenHopper already filters by assignee, but instead of assignees, we'll be filtering by JIRA groups.

What is involved in making such a custom update? Are there any helpful links or documentation to help guide me toward completing this task?

As answerd on the similiar question you could add some project contexts with a filter behind them which explicitly filter on certain asignees. So you could have a context for all the UI people, for example.
