Extending the field length

Is it possible to extend the field length in JIRA.

Depends on the field, and what you mean by "field length" - the area a field covers on screen, or the actual data in it? Or both?

You will need to edit the .vm file that is used to draw the field. Assuming this is a custom field, you'll find that these are done by field *type*, not field, so changes will affect the rendering of ALL of the fields of that type.

I can't remember off the top of my head where the files are, but look for files called things like textarea-edit.vm and textarea-view.vm - they're all kept in one place for custom fields.
