Global Ranking

Our Jira instance has grown quite large in the last couple of years. Our issue type hierarchy is as followed:

- Initiative

- Feature

- Epic

- Child issue types

We have been struggling with Initiative/Feature ranking. Our managers want a full view of fields and children as they are conducting their prioritization exercises, so the ranking feature in backlog does not meet these needs. We have tried Plans and the Structure add-on, but we ultimately always hit a limit error once we bring in children to the view.

This is a global exercise across all of our projects. We are open to any suggestions including add ons.

I'afraid that this is not possible with Jira's our of the box tools. 

But if you want to try a add-on, our Great Gadgets app offers some gadgets that could be very useful for your use case. 

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) gadget - can display the issues from a filter/JQL by their hierarchy Initiative > Feature > Epic > Child issue types > Sub-tasks along with their status thus giving you a quick overview about the work to be performed.

Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget - can display the issues from a filter/JQL by their hierarchy Initiative > Feature > Epic > Child issue types > Sub-tasks along with other fields (at your choice).
