When a file (text, spreadsheet, etc.) is attached to an issue, is there a way to edit that issue within JIRA so that you don't have to download the file, edit it, then attach a new one?

You could instead use Remote Links to link to a public file in DropBox or a.n.other system. That way, you could edit the file locally and on save it would be sync'd to your cloud storage -- the JIRA remote link would hold true.

Not the answer, but an alternative option :)
