How can we display the status of the options in a agile board (ToDo list custom field)?

I have created a Kanban board in which I display the "ToDo list custom field" on the card (selected in "Card layout") but on the card itself I only get plain text of all options and cannot see if some of the options is already checked as done. How can I hide/change the display for the completed options?

Addition: I also cannot add the field to the "Issue Detail View" in "General Fields"
