How do I create something other than a task on the backlog?

I just created a new project in JIRA and now, in the enhanced backlog view, people can only create Tasks in the "create" line under sprints. In the old backlog view, I get all of the options - New Features, etc. - but in the new view, only Tasks.

Which project template did you select when you created the project? It could be that there are not other issue types available for the project based on the template you used.

There are. I can create New Features, etc. from the Create button at the top of JIRA. They all show up in the old backlog view, just not the new one. There is an open bug for it now: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-25799
