I've seen videos where people can change subtask status directly inside parent issue backlog view.
However that option isn't available in Jira of my organization - we're using v9.4.4 of Jira software hosted in a data center.
I suppose this has to do with the version.
But in case we are unable to update it, is there anyway to make this option available? Like an addon for example?
Hello @Miguel Silva
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
I don't have a solution for you, but I suspect that the videos you were watching were for Jira Cloud vs. Jira Data Center, as this is a function that is available in Jira Cloud.
Thanks @Trudy Claspill for reminding me that this is a Cloud feature. I didn't notice the jira-software-server tag. 😉

Hello guys,
Sad to know that...
We would like to work with subtasks but without this feature I think we either need to open them in another window or have another board just to transition them trough workflow. We find that using stories/tasks and substasks in the same board is pretty messy...
I am wondering if this workaround would work: create an automation that changes subtask status based on other field value.
So we would have the possibilty to do something like this:
I am no Jira admin, so I need to ask for this automation.
If you find any issue with this solution, please let me know.
