How to transition Epic children issues to the same status as the parent Epic

Matt Mace February 24, 2021

We have a status of "ICEBOX" for issues we want to shelve for the time being. When an Epic is transitioned to ICEBOX we would like all the child issues (including sub-tasks to the children) also transitioned also.

I am trying to set a post-function using "Transition issue(s) (JMWE app)". I select "Issues that belong to the current issue (Epic)" and then I put in "ICEBOX" as the transition.

Is there anything else I need to do? I am assuming that because this is a post-function for the ICEBOX transition that I don't need to test to see if the Epic status is transitioning to ICEBOX, correct?

Also, if one of the child issues of the Epic has sub-tasks, will those sub-tasks also be transitioned or do I need to create another post-function to handle them?

Hi @Matt Mace ,

yes, that should work. However, make sure you type the correct transition name, or else use the Transition Picker to find the correct transition name (or ID). Transition names are case-sensitive, and are usually different from status names.

Taking your word for this. I've implemented but haven't tested it yet. Thank you for the response
