What do you mean by "contents of the field"?

You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.

You should go to Jira settings -> Issues -> Custom fields, find your field and choose the Configure option.

You must be a Jira administrator to do this.
