Import BPMN models to Jira

Mason Smith February 23, 2023

I am looking for a way to import our BPMN models to Jira, as we have already documented many business processes in BPMN.

Is converting them to a Jira workflow possible, or is that too simplistic?

Hello @Mason Smith

That's a very abstract question with thousands of possible answers based on what modelling tool you've used, what format it can export the models in, how you intend to decompose the models into a linear sequence, how you deal with gate branching depths, how you deal with path parallelism, what objects of the model will map to equivalent objects in the workflow, what sort of app or script development tool you'll use to create the workflow etc etc etc.

Start by Googling 'jira bpmn to workflow' to see what commercial products like Flower exist to shortcut the process and read the other documentation that already exists on the topic first if you're considering building it all yourself.

Having done a fair bit of the same work myself, I can advise it's a very, very, VERY non-trivial task to undertake!
