Hi @Natalie Keane As others have mentioned, the best time tracking tool depends largely on your specific needs. While Tempo is an option for larger organizations with complex requirements (like resource management and financial reporting), there are other tools on the Atlassian Marketplace that offer similar features at a more affordable price point.

One option worth considering is 7pace Timetracker for Jira which was recently launched on the Atlassian Marketplace but already has a proven track record in the Azure DevOps and monday.com ecosystems. We work side by side with JXL team, so I would love to chat more about your use case for time tracking + JXL.

7pace Timetracker seamlessly integrates with Jira, making time tracking a natural part of your existing workflows. It offers flexibility in how you track and manage time (tracking on issues, calendars, or timesheets), with a single source of truth for powerful reporting.

Additionally, we have an exciting roadmap with enterprise-ready features like APIs, BigPicture integration, approval workflows, and more, which you can check out on our marketplace listing.

I’d recommend checking it out to see if it aligns with your needs. Please let me know if you have any questions and good luck!

Thank you. Is there anywhere I could see the pros and cons of each?

@Natalie Keane We can definitely share this with you! In short, 7pace Timetracker offers many of the same core time-tracking features, but with a more intuitive, Jira-native user interface that helps improve user adoption. It’s also priced affordably while delivering on advanced time tracking, management and reporting functionality. Additionally, we’re rolling out some exciting enterprise features, such as API support and capacity planning, which will be available later this quarter.

To provide a more specific comparison, it would be helpful to understand your specific needs and priorities— what your teams/orgs needs are or things you don’t require. If you’d like, we can schedule a quick demo to discuss in more detail. We’d love to learn more about your requirements and see how we can best support you!

Hi @Natalie Keane, the answer depends on your needs and priorities. Is your team or organization big enough or you're a small team or a startup? Tempo products are primarily dedicated to enterprise clients, so they get support first. Also, it's not cost effective to pay for each module independently, like for Timesheets, Capacity Planner, etc.

Tools like ActivityTimeline gather capacity planning, time tracking, timesheet approvals, reporting and charts under the same umbrella, which makes them more appropriate for small- and medium-sized teams for the price you pay for the Timesheets alone. Also, they have very friendly client support no matter the size of your team. I've recently wrote a comparison on these two add-ons, if you find it useful.

There are other plugins that can help with time tracking, so I'd be able to make more tailored advice if you provide more context :)

Tempo is one of the oldest and most used timesheet apps in the marketplace. But the term "the best" changes depending on your use cases. We have our own timesheet app, WorklogPRO, so my opinions are biased. For me, the worst thing about Tempo Cloud is that they store all of your worklogs in their proprietary storage format. Later, if you decide to uninstall it and switch to another app or if you want to just use the built-in Jira "Worklog tab", you will lose the "worklog author" and "worklog description". You can read more about it here. In WorklogPRO, we try to store every piece of information inside Jira. Of course, this also has some disadvantages, for example, you can't make author or work description private to some users. So, you should evaluate the apps according to your needs.

Hi @Natalie Keane

It depends on your needs. Tempo Timesheets is a popular solution, but if you are looking for a simpler and more intuitive way to display and export your filtered time logs, then it's worth checking out our solution. Worklogs - Time Tracking and Time Reports allows for filtering your time logs in quickly and easy way while its price is very affordable.

Time logs can be displayed in table and chart forms.

Of course, you can log time directly in the table. The logged time remains in Jira because we rely on the native time tracking Jira function.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us via customer portal or schedule a meeting.

Kind regards,

Tempo is one of the most well-known time-tracking apps for Jira, but whether it's the best depends on your specific needs. If you're looking for a solution tightly integrated with Jira’s ecosystem, offering timesheets, resource planning, and budgeting, then Tempo is a strong contender.

That said, alternatives like Clockify, Toggl, and Everhour provide different strengths—some focus on simplicity, others on advanced reporting or seamless integration with non-Atlassian tools. If you're using JXL alongside Jira, you'll also want to ensure compatibility and flexibility in how time data is structured within your workflows.

What key features are you looking for in a time-tracking app?

Hi @Natalie Keane

It depends on what the "best" means for a certain organisation. Tempo has a list of comprehensive features indeed: time tracking, resource management, budgeting, and reporting. However, depending on your needs you may need  more simple app (or even use a standard Jira time tracking with any free tools to export the timesheets), or an app with different focus (for instance, if you need time tracking combing with advanced project management, you may need a BigPicture).

Hi @Natalie Keane

Tempo Software is an app vendor and has many apps on the Atlassian Marketplace. What app are you referring to, more exactly, when you say "Tempo"?

Danut.
