JIRA CLOUD: Prevent a Sprint START when estimate of at least one issue is missing

Anuj B

Application: JIRA CLOUD

Question: How do I prevent/stop a Sprint Start when there is at least one story / bug that isn't sized yet.

Is there a systematic way to gray out the [Start Sprint] OR throw an error when this condition (at least one ticket without a point estimate in the Sprint backlog) is met?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Anuj,

Thank you for reaching out.

Unfortunately, there's no way out of the box to prevent a Sprint from being started when it has unestimated issues.

We have a feature request to implement similar functionality in order to prevent this behavior:

Restrict issues from being added to sprint if unestimated

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

For now, we recommend you to use card colors by queries in the board to at least identify those issues that are not estimated:

- Navigate to your board > Board settings > Card Colors > Select queries

- Configure a query to identify your unestimated issue, setting a color to it:

timeestimate is empty

Let me know if you have any questions.

Can't the goal be reached with some plugin ?
