Jira clould - Reopen a Sprint

Peter Smolders

Hello,

We use Jira Cloud version.

I would like reopen a completed sprint. In the Jira documentation I can see that you can reopen a sprint in Jira cloud as follows :

  1. Choose the Jira icon ( or ) > Projects.
  2. Select the relevant project
  3. Click Reports, then select Sprint Report
  4. Select the relevant sprint from the sprint drop-down
  5. Select more (•••) > Reopen sprint. The Reopen Sprint dialog will be displayed, showing you the outcome you can expect when the sprint is reopened
  6. Click Reopen

However, when I perform step 1,2 and 3 then I do not see 'Sprint Report'.

I only see

  • Burnup Report
  • Velocity Report
  • Cumulative Flow Diagram

Can you tell me (step by step) how to access 'Sprint Report' so that I can reopen completed sprints?

Thank you,

Peter

Hi @Peter Smolders

Ahh - is this a Next Gen project? Apologies, we should have worked that out upfront!

Unfortunately you cannot re-open a sprint in Next Gen at this stage - you can vote for the inclusion of this feature though here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17208

That is not a new feature. It is basic functionality that is missing and therefore a critical bug.

Hi @andrés

Next-Gen is separate to Classic so it's not designed to completely replicate it. It's being built from the ground-up so you will see a variance in some features.

If you want this feature you can still use Classic. If not, then it'll be dependant on what features Atlassian choose as priority.

Bear in mind reopening a sprint hasn't been around since the beginning of Jira Cloud - see JSWCLOUD-7804 for its release back in 2016.

I don't why Jira does not make this basic feature becoming available. It's a shame.

@Ste Wright

I guess my question to Jira is Why would this NOT be considered as a feature in Next Generation Jira Project?   AKA how does this benefit or how is removing this an improvement on old functionality?

You can enable the releases section and see the Version created for that sprint and that is about it.

I accidentally closed the wrong sprint and now I am left having to just re-create another one and  loose all my metrics.

or I select IT e-llis Projects (IELP) and then select the Board.

From then I select Reports and then I see

only see

  • Burnup Report

Hi @Peter Smolders

Have you tried going to the Board rather than the Project? If your Board is multi-project it might now show up on each project in itself.

Try instead:

  • Click Search on the left-hand navigation bar
  • Choose your Board (either from Recent - or from the Board menu at the bottom)
  • Follow 3 onwards in your instructions.

Let us know how this goes :)

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

What exactly do you mean with 'Board'?

When I select Dashboard, I see following options :

  • Your work
  • Dahsboards
  • Projects
  • Issues and Filters
  • Emails
  • Jira Settings

Hi @Peter Smolders

You want to go to the main board for your sprint - which will be attached to one Jira project in Cloud.

To locate the Board:

  1. Press the Search icon (the magnifying glass) - keyboard shortcut is /
  2. Your Board might be in the "Recent Boards, Projects and Filters" list - if not...
  3. Click Boards at the bottom of Search (in the View All section)
  4. Search for your Scrum board's name and select it
  5. Follow the steps in your comment from 3 onwards

Thanks for screenshot below - are you sure you're locating the board? There's no board mentioned below - you're in the project's reports.

Usually the board will appear with its name, the backlog, active sprint board, etc - the same location you sprint plan and activate sprints.

Did you follow the instructions above for locating the board via search rather than via the project view?
