×I cannot see a way to add tables to the description of Jira issues in the new issue view and the old way of formatting a table also does not work (adding || etc.)
Hey @Amy Scales
There's acutally a bug related to the new jira issue view: Tables won't be rendered in the comments nor in the description if edited through the new issue detail view
If you want to be updated on the progress, please feel free to add yourself as a watcher to the bug report.
As a workaround, you can temporarily switch to old interface on the jira issue view in the meantime or add the table via the issue view screen.
Let me know if this helps you for now!
Gabi
Do we have any idea what the ETA is on this bug? There is no option to switch to the old view when you are creating tickets, and the tables not working is causing a problem for my team and greatly hindering the adoption of the processes we have built inside of JIRA

FYI - this is still a bug and it's now January 17, 2019

Very Disappointing. I am TOTALLY not a fan of the new Jira. basic features which were being used with ease now has a steep learning curve. Atlassian, this should not have rushed into this new view. Bad experience and just increased work

Just hit this issue as well with a new team I'm trying to get up running on Jira.
A real pain and doesn't leave a good impression when you have to tell people sorry you can put tables in there.

The sheer amount of regressions in terms of prior capability vs. new capability astounds me.

How can this massive regression still exist over 6 months later? Do you not use your own product?
Edit: seems it was fixed after all, though there's no longer any hint towards the syntax (switched to the old interface to add a table in a comment, then edited a table cell in the new interface and it showed up).
Edit 2: seems it was not really fixed after all; although I have been able to edit it in the new view with it showing, when I tried to edit it again, i got an empty editor with the message “This text has unsupported formatting”...

This is Atlassian. I've had to use their products for many years, and their culture is all about disregarding what their customers need.
The ticket above was closed as a duplicate of https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-69259, which was summarily closed without addressing the issue.
Now they are forcing users to migrate to the new view. I'll have hundreds of tickets that use tabular data in the comments that will now show gibberish.
