My thought on this is that if you are going to use a vendor for maintenance of the instance, then you follow their guidance. Select the vendor based on their experience/understanding of your requirements/time zone coverage/etc etc and then see if they have recommendations for running your environment in their managed hosting platform (if they have one) or managing an environment that you run and control. Either way (and this should be a rule for all vendor relationships, absolutely no reflection on the Atlassian ecosystem) but if you are going to go down the path of a vendor managed hosting platform - ensure you're comfortable with their security/privacy/data ownership policies and understand what their end of contract process would be if that was to happen (basically, make sure you know the process for getting the environment handed back to you.
While I've worked with a number of vendors, I have not used any of them for this specific service, so have no personal recommendations.
