Jira server - managed hosting provider or AWS?

Hi,

My team and I are thinking of migrating from Jira Cloud to Server for various reasons. Chief among them is needing the ability to do extensive customization and automation.

We're curious if other people have navigated this journey and how to approach this. Did you consider a vendor that does managed hosting or did you setup a cloud instance like AWS and contracted a vendor to dev/maintain the instance? Do you have any vendor recommendations that do this kind of work?

Thanks!

Hey @wa1_kh00 ,

My thought on this is that if you are going to use a vendor for maintenance of the instance, then you follow their guidance. Select the vendor based on their experience/understanding of your requirements/time zone coverage/etc etc and then see if they have recommendations for running your environment in their managed hosting platform (if they have one) or managing an environment that you run and control. Either way (and this should be a rule for all vendor relationships, absolutely no reflection on the Atlassian ecosystem) but if you are going to go down the path of a vendor managed hosting platform - ensure you're comfortable with their security/privacy/data ownership policies and understand what their end of contract process would be if that was to happen (basically, make sure you know the process for getting the environment handed back to you.

While I've worked with a number of vendors, I have not used any of them for this specific service, so have no personal recommendations.
