Jira sizing: users

Marcin March 19, 2021

I'm looking into Jira sizing guide within which there is part refereeing to "Users". How do you understand that?

- all accounts being displayed under "User management / users"?

- all accounts being licensed?

- all active accounts?

Hi @Marcin

I understand it as 'Licensed' users.

I see that it as a way to categorize in which scale the particular jira instance will fall under.

E.g., 2000 user license would be a large scale and not small/mid or enterprise

Just to confuse things, Jira has different types of users, and one of the types is "customers".  Customers are light accounts with low levels of interaction, plus they are "free" - you can have an unlimited number at no cost.

You should not consider these as "licenced" when looking at the sizing guide.

(For example, a system with 10 Agents, 1000 customers and 250 developers has 260 licenced users, and should be sized for 260, not 1,260)

My current understanding is that *those* users are:

- all accounts being displayed under "User management / users"

This is because all those accounts are being "indexed" (being part of cwd_user) by Jira even not being active or licensed.

No, that's wrong.

Please stop looking at the database, the data in there is not helpful for sizing (or much else)

You need to look at the active user accounts.  Add up the number of Agents, Developers and Core users.

Hi @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-, thanks for sharing that. Let's hope that our understanding is matching Atlassian.
