New JIRA Cloud UI - prevent field edit

As the new UI rolls out, the edit and view screens become one and the same (at least that is my understanding). 

We have custom fields, that once submitted, should not be edited. Without a separate Edit and View screen, how do I prevent these fields from being edited after the issue has been submitted?

You don't. That's why they have separate screens, so you can define different behavior.

It states:

Goodbye to separate view and edit screens

The new issue view has one just screen, where you view, edit, transition, and comment. Click any field you see to edit it inline.

OH, sorry, we're on a server implementation and have not got this yet. I'll let someone else try to help you with this.
