Not getting email notifications in JIRA Cloud

On the Notifications page, I'm trying to simply set up event Issue Updated to notify:

  • All Watchers
  • Current Assignee
  • Project Role (Developers)
  • Reporter
  • Single Email Address (<user email address>)
  • Single User (<user>)

There are 5 people assigned to the Developers group but no one is getting notified when I do something to an issue (e.g., move it from To Do to In Development). Am I missing something simple? Permissions? Thanks.

Hello,

If the Developers a role or a group? There is a difference in Jira between a role and a group. You assign users to a role in a project. You assign users to a group in the User Management interface.

Just to add to Alexey point, you can assign the existing developer group (which include the 5 users) to the project Project Role (Developers) by following this steps:

1. Go to Project Settings > People

2. Click on Add People > Add the "Developer" Group and assign the Developers Role > Click Add

Your user should be able to receive notification for any issue updates. The project role will help when managing larger complex and larger group of users. (eg. How to restrict project access to different isolated user groups)

Feel free to have a read of this documentation here: JIRA Permissions made Simple

I was able to add my Developer group (of 5) and assign the Developers role to it.

On the Notifications page, I noticed this group was (somehow) assigned to several events, a couple of which were the Issue Moved (System) and Issue Commented (System) events. (I also have assigned the jira-software-users group to several of the same events just to try and get something to work). HOWEVER, when I move (or comment) issues from one column to another on the Active sprints board, none of the 5 users get email notifications. Is there something I'm overlooking?

Note: in my jira-software-users group (On the USER MANAGEMENT/Groups page), it shows 8 users and yet when I click on it, there are no users displaying. Could this be affecting notifications?

In further experimenting, I gather that an issue must have either a user assigned  (who will get the email notification) or it must be watched in order to receive email notifications? Please confirm. Thanks.
