I recently switched to the new editor for some content that contains a lot of bulleted lists that we use as templates, copying the lists into Jira and then editing as needed.
When copying from the page created by the legacy editor, everything worked great but when copying from the page created by the new editor, additional spaces are added between each item in the list in Jira. It's tedious to always have to remove these spaces.
Is there a way to make it so these spaces aren't added?
Note that the bulleted lists include asterisks so they are formatted the same in Jira. Thanks!
Hello Cody,
Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!
Testing on my local site, I created a bullet list in Confluence and then pasted it in Jira (using the new issue view) and it shows correctly, so I believe I'm missing something here.
Can you please send us a screenshot of how it looks in Confluence and then in Jira? If possible, create one as an example in order to share with us here, since community is public.
Is this bullet list already created in the template or you copy from another place and paste it in Confluence?
Please, let us know all the steps you are following so we can try to replicate the same behavior here.
Regards,
Angélica
Hi Angélica,
Thanks for the reply. I can show a bit more what I'm working with.
The bulleted list was created originally in the legacy editor, which was updated to the new editor, but writing the list items from scratch in the new editor also has the same result. Copy-pasting a bulleted list from a page made with the legacy editor does not add these spaces between the list items.
In Confluence:
When pasted into Jira:
The spaces go away once I exit the Jira field, but it makes writing and revising from the template very tedious when creating a lot of stories.
Thanks,
Cody

Thank you for the details, Cody.
The create issue screen in Jira is currently using the Wiki markup editor and the new editor in Confluence is Markdown.
There is a feature suggesting to add Markdown on the create issue screen, that would fix the issue that you are facing:
For now, the best option, in this case, would be to use the new issue view and paste the bullet list into the field after the ticket is created.

Well, I'm glad to know it's not just a problem I'm dealing with--thanks for explaining.
Could you clarify what you mean by "new issue view?"

Hi Cody,
The new issue view is how we call the new design in Jira. It was introduced a while ago and all Cloud sites will be transitioned to this new view next year. Currently, it's possible to enable and disable this option on your profile (Profile picture > Personal settings > Jira labs).
