Plans: display Story and Subtask at the same level

Hello

I'm using Plans to provide visibility to the management.

The current request is to display information coming from various Project. However, some of information are stored as Story in some project and some others are stored as Subtask

When putting everything together, I've got a subtask header that I need to get rid off because at this level, we don't care whether we are display Story or Subtask:

Is there a way to display all the information at the same hierarchy ? ( a way that does not imply changing all my subtasks into Stories and completely reconfiguring my Jira project)

Thanks for your help

Hello @Corinne Guibert

No, that is not possible in Plans. Plans displays items based on their type and the Work Item Hierarchy global configuration.

Each work item type will be displayed at the corresponding hierarchy level. Subtasks are typically at level -1, while Stories are typically at level 0. Subtasks also typically are child items under another item type at level 0, so the parent of those subtasks should be displayed at the same hierarchy level as your Stories.

Hi

You may want to explore using Portfolio by HeroCoders.

The Portfolio Table View allows you to show the Issue Types on the same levels and alongside the possibility to switch from the standard table format to a Gantt view.

As shown:

Other features on the Portfolio include the possibility of adding other fields (like priority, status, Time spent, and estimates), including other App fields (like Capacity and Delivery Alerts), inline editing, and Advanced filtering.

You can save this view and any other views you would like to create.

The App also provides you with built-in capacity planning, allowing you to effectively allocate resources and ensure that projects stay aligned with business objectives.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

We are happy to provide you with a demo of the App.

Hello @Corinne Guibert

As mentioned by Trudy, Plans unfortunately don’t offer these capabilities.

If you are open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your Jira data that allows viewing, inline-editing, copy-pasting, sorting, and filtering by all your work items' fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel, Google Sheets, Smartsheet, or Airtable. It also comes with a number of great features, including highly configurable issue hierarchies. Your hierarchy levels can be based on Jira built-in parent/child relationships (like task/sub-task, or epic/story), but they can also be based on issue links.

This is an example of how this looks in action:

initiative-hierarchy.gif

This is just an example of a customised work item hierarchy. You’re totally free in how you structure your work, e.g. visualising stories and sub-tasks on the same level is also no problem at all.

Any questions just let me know.

Best,
Daniel

Hello @Daniel Franz - JXL

I checked JXL and it seems that we don't have the timeline view. Can you confirm ?

Regards

@Corinne Guibert that's correct. JXL is a spreadsheet-like view, and currently doesn't have a side-by-side timeline like Jira plans. For that, you'd need to stick to plans or consider another Marketplace app. I believe BigPicture might be helpful.
