Problem with duplicate issue links

A former Jira admin created two sets of Issue link types with the same descriptions

  • Parent to Child relations: is parent of, is child of
  • Parent-Child: is parent of, is child of

When trying to reference the link in JQL, it returns an error, even though the green checkmark appears

“More than one link type with description: is parent of, this is not currently supported”

I have tried re-naming one of the duplicates to “parent of/child of” and I still get the error. I even tried deleting one of the duplicates and still get the error. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Have you renamed all the options, not just the name of the link?

Hello,

Yes, I renamed them to "parent of" and "child of"

Thanks

Lisa

What about the other two?

Sorry, I'm not understanding the question. For the first "Parent to Child Relations" I left the outward and inward description as is ("is parent of", "is child of")

For the second "Parent-Child", I changed the outward description to "parent of" and inward description to "child of"

I was hoping the JQL could distinguish between the 2 issue link types but it didn't work. Does that answer your question?

Thanks again

Yes, thank you.

Have you re-indexed the system?

no, that is probably the culprit I suspect?

It might be.  The index is what the search is using, and reconfiguring some stuff (fields mainly) can upset it.  Your changes to the names of the links should show when you look at the issues, but I have a feeling they need to be updated in the index as well.

I ran a re-index and still get the error. Any other ideas?

I found my problem, there was another link with the same description. Once i re-named that, all was good, no re-index needed. Thanks for your help
