Amount of time assigned to each user?

Kyle McGee February 2, 2023

Is it possible in the project to track the amount of time each user holds onto the issue? We are wanting that as one of our KPIs and I can't quite figure out how to make this.

Thanks.

Hello @Kyle McGee

Addititionally to the recommendations below, I guess trying Time in Status for Jira Cloud, which generates the Assignee time report (and 6 other status time reports you can discover on the documentation page),

Assignee Time.gif

With its help you can easily find out:

  • how long each assignee has been working on issue,
  • on which stages some delays occur,
  • how long an issue has been staying in each status (Time in Status report), etc.

And then export report to the CSV or XLSX files if necessary.

Is that what you need or do you have any additional questions?

If so, I'm here to help you, because this add-on is developed by my SaaSJet team.

@Kyle McGee The only way to see individual time would be to look at the specific issues details.  If you would like to report on this you would need to use a time tracking app from the marketplace or a BI app from the marketplace.  Jira only reports on the aggregate of all time logged on an issue.

To add a little to what @Brant Schroeder has already said, here's an example search you can tune to your needs, @Kyle McGee:

That's just the first row of the results.  There are lots of choices for you to consider.

Full disclosure: I  work for Tempo, makers of the #1 time tracking solution for Jira. But, as I said, you should tune the search to fit your needs.

Hope this helps,

Hello @Kyle McGee ,

If you are OK with using a marketplace app for this, our team at OBSS built Time in Status for this exact need. It is available for Jira Server, Cloud, and Data Center.

Time in Status mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status and on each assignee.

tisCloud_StatusDuration_LeadTime_with Estimates.png  tisCloud_AssigneeDuration.png

You can also see a breakdown of assignee times on different statuses.

tisCloud_AssigneeDurationPerStatus.png  tisCloud_StatusDurationPerAssignee.png

For all numeric report types, you can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by the issue fields you select. For example assignee time per issue type or average resolution time per sprint, week, month, issuetype, request type, etc. The ability to group by parts of dates (year, month, week, day, hour) or sprints is particularly useful here since it allows you to compare different time periods or see the trend.

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well. It supports both Company Managed and Team Managed projects.

Time in Status reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts.

And the app has a REST API so you can get the reports from Jira UI or via REST.

Using Time in Status you can:

  • See how much time each issue spent on each status, assignee, user group and also see dates of status transitions.
  • Calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by issue fields you select. (For example, see average InProgress time per project and per issue type.)
  • Export your data as XLS, XLSX, or CSV.
  • Access data via REST API. (for integrations)
  • Visualize data with various chart types.
  • See Time in Status reports on Jira Dashboard gadgets

Hi @Kyle McGee

As an alternative, you can try Status Time Reports app developed by our team. It mainly provides reports and gadgets based on how much time passed in each status.

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try without installing the app. For your case, you can have a look at Time in Assignee report.

  • This app has a dynamic status grouping feature so that you can generate various valuable reports as time in status, time in assignee, status entry dates and status counts, cycle time and lead time, average/sum reports by any field(e.g. average in progress time by project, average cycle time by issue creation month).
  • You can search issues by Project, Issue Type, Status, Assignee, Issue Creation/Resolution Date(and any other Date field) and JQL Query.
  • Status durations are calculated according to the working calendar you define. Once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. That is, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days.
  • You can set different duration formats.
  • You can export reports in CSV file format and open them in MS Excel.
  • You can also add this app as a gadget to your Jira dashboards and reach “Status Time” from Issue Detail page.
  • You can enable/disable access to Status Time reports&gadgets and Issue Detail page per project, users, groups or project role.

If you are looking for a free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Free.

Hope it helps.

Hello,

I would like to wholeheartedly recommend our Worklogs Time Tracking and Reports

Our app takes Jira Time Logs and Jira issue fields, and creates reports to it. For example with it you can:

  • How much time each user spent on specific issues

users.png

  • View which project, issue type and priority took the most time

priorities.png

  • Log time to Jira tickets from a table view

How to Log Time using Work Logs.gif

Each report can be displayed as a table or a chart view. You can also share it on dashboard or export to the excel file.

Hope it helps! :)

Hi @Kyle McGee

If you would be interested in a mktplace solution, you can try out our plugin,

Time in Status Reports

The add-on provides the time with assignee report which will meet your use case. There are multiple other reports which help in tracking the complete life cycle of the issues.

Disclaimer : I work for RVS, the vendor for this app.

Hi @Kyle McGee

you might consider using time tracking apps that in most cases have a customizable report of tracked time on issues.

I can recommend our Clockwork Automated Time Tracking & Timesheets Free app, which offers you the possibility to review timesheets that can be configured in various ways using break-down, and filtering options. It also allows you to export the data to excel files. Please find below the sample of how the timesheet looks like:

In an easy way, you can have a look at how much time the specific user spent on a specific issue.

If you have any questions you can contact us via our help center.

Cheers!
