Can I create a field description for a *system* field that applies to a single issue type?

Erin Moore November 22, 2019

My goal:

I am trying to provide a field description for the Description field (confusing, I know, I'm sorry!) that will display for a single issue type.

My steps:

  1. Created Field Configuration with desired field description
  2. Created Field Configuration Scheme with the Field Configuration and associated it to the single issue type
  3. Associated Field Configuration Scheme with the *default* Field Configuration Scheme that is shared across all projects

My observations:

  1. The above steps do not yield the desired description of the Description field for the single issue type
  2. The desired description of the Description field *does* display if the *default* Field Configuration is modified with the desired description of the Description field.

I am open to questions, comments, and suggestions!

Thank you for your time.

Hi @Erin Moore ,

Welcome to Community !

Please follow below steps.

1. Create Field Configuration called Test and add the required description for Description field.

2. Create New Scheme Field Configuration scheme called Demo Scheme. Once you create new scheme it contains Default field Configuration for all issue types. To this Demo Scheme associate an issue type with Test field configuration which us created in step 1.

3. Navigate to project  settings > Fields > Use Different scheme

3. Select Newly created Demo Scheme and associate.

Thanks so much @Avinash Bhagawati {Appfire} for your quick response!! I'll attempt this solution and let you know of my results.

Thanks again @Avinash Bhagawati {Appfire}, but this only partially solved my issue as it results in a 1 Field Configuration Scheme to 1 Project. But it *did* prompt me to resolve the problem: I needed to create a new Main Field Configuration Scheme and link all the Field Configurations, including the Default Field Configuration, with properly associated issue types to it. Voila!!!

Thanks again!

The "Description" field is unique. Yes, it's likely the only one you can't hide or edit.
