Can you change the way custom fields appear on Kanban board cards

I have added a custom field to my Kanban board that is a single select field.  My users would like to have the field have a different background color when it appears on the card.  Similar to the way Epics have different colors on the cards, they would like this field to have its own set of colors.  Currently the field displays in plain black test on the card.  Each card already has its own color bases on Status and the user doesn't want that to change.  Is it possible to make custom field values stand out in this way.

Thanks for your suggestion but we are already using card color to reflect status and the users don't want to change that.  I would need an way to change the color of the text or the text background of that field.  Do you know of any way to do that?
