Does Jira markdown support inline (base64) images?

Hi it looks to me that Jira does not support inline images, could someone please confirm that this is the case, or advise on how to embed an inline image into markup if possible another way.

My attempts to embed an inline image appear as text..
E.g.

![](data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEU   .... ) 

The format of the markdown (not Jira specific) was found here..

Hi @Philip Wilkinson

Jira doesn't support base64 inline images, but you can add them by using the wiki markup like this: !test.png|thumbnail!
