Dear all,

I get a weird question based on the best way to import a project from an instance in to an other, both runing Jira 9.11.3 data center

The way I have try to do so far, is generate a full backup of my source instance.
Then use the project import on the target instance which is of course same version as the source which contains already some data.

My surpise was that, it seems the project need to be existing in the target instance to be able to import, as well as issue type and custom field for validation process.

Is is really the case or did I miss something ?

That would be a stupid thing if we want to import a project and need to get that project already exist .
My expectation would be that Project Import will import a fresh new project and create it if not existing

Thanks for sharing your practice on this

Regards

Hi Serge,

I will recommend that you shouldn't use the default option.

Instead, consider using the app configuration manager for JIRA because it creates the project, imports all the configuration for the project.

Here is Atlassian's stand on this as well.

Regards.
