How to integrate Jira software and Jira service management (both on data center)?

Dina ElMowafy October 9, 2022

Hello,

I have Jira software data center installed on local environment and currently, we need to install Jira service management data center and get it integrated with the existing jira software data center, any idea about that?

Thanks in advance,

Hello @Dina ElMowafy ,

Hope you are doing good!!

You don't have to install JSM differently on another instance as @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- you just go their and install the JSM on the instance. You don't have to integrate it seperately.

Hope this helps!!

@Dina ElMowafy hello. I see Nic & Mayur have posted some pretty good suggestions.  In case you're open to alternative solutions, i'd suggest taking look at the ZigiOps marketplace section. It's a no-code connector that integrates the two Jira instances in a few minutes bi-directionally. As a result, their data is synced and kept up to date in real-time. ZigiOps has advanced functionalities and can be customized to fit various use cases. Feel free to explore it and if you want to see it in action - you can always schedule a short meeting to see how it resolves your use case.

Hey @Dina ElMowafythanks for the question! This is Umer from Backbone Issue Sync for Jira's team 😊

If you want to connect your Jira software data center instance with a Jira Service Management (JSM) data center instance, an Issue sync app such as Backbone Issue Sync for Jira would be a perfect fit!

For instance, when your customer sends a request via JSM, your support team can use Backbone to send the Jira ticket directly to the internal Jira project. Since no one has to leave their own workflow, customer ticket resolution is accelerated.

The teams can automate syncing of issues, components, labels, custom fields, attachments, comments, etc., between Jira and JSM and can decide on the flow of information via uni- or bi-directional control settings.

If you have any questions about Backbone or want to get a demo, please get back to me at usohail@k15t.com or simply schedule a meeting slot here.

Or maybe leave more details about your use case here and I am sure I can elaborate further on how Backbone can be used to fit your needs.

Best, Umer Sohail

Thanks @Mayur Jadhav @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- , But it won't affect the performance of the current Jira software data center?, if it will affect the performance, how to scale the current installation to match the new requirement?

Dina ElMowafy October 9, 2022

The other alternative is to have a separate environment for JSM data center, in this case how to do the integration with JSW?

I could suggest to have single instance and just increase the resources such as JVM, RAM, Storage etc. Still you need to evaluate the current Jira usage/performance of Jira and you need to take decision accordingly.

Yes, it will impose some more load on the nodes, but only as a function of how you use it.  So just think about how many more users you will have after you've added it and look to https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/jira-server-sizing-guide-975033809.html for sizing it (I know this says "server", but the recommendation for sizing DC nodes is "the same as you would do for a server")

To "integrate" two separate systems, you are looking at adding an application link between them, and then setting up piles of automations and scripting to enable the more clever things you might want to do.

I strongly recommend installing JSM on the existing DC - it's cheaper and easier than building another DC cluster, and the "integration" is automatically much tighter because you're running everything in one place.
